S.M.A.R.T. stands for:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Results-focused
Time-Bound

When Portland High School was asked to
come up with S.M.A.R.T. Goals for the
2015 – 2016 school year, there was one
that was at the top of the list - graduation
rates.

This year's goal states:

Some of the ways we intend to
accomplish this goal include using our
CREW time to provide each and every
student a champion in their corner year
after year. Our CREW meets every
Tuesday after 2nd block. The same teacher
has the same CREW kids every year from
freshman year through graduation. This
allows the students and teachers to really
get to know each other. The teachers
then have a truly vested interest in these
particular students. They follow their
scholastic careers, help them celebrate
their achievements and are a stable, safe
place to come to for help.

In addition to using CREW as the
students’ homeroom, we also use this
time to engage our students in clubs. Not
every student is able to meet before or
after school to be involved in
extracurricular activities, such as
Storytelling, Book Club, Archery Club,
Automotive Enthusiasts, or Senior
Survival clubs. Having this during the
regular school day really opens it up and
allows the students to become more
involved. Involved students feel more
accepted and therefore have more of a
desire to excel.

Our Award-Winning Renaissance
program is another way that helps us
accomplish this goal.

The accomplishments of the Renaissance
program are not just felt here at the high
school, they are making a positive impact
on our community as well.

As a result of putting these programs in
place, PHS now boasts

 The mission of this program:

Success! Message received.
